One of my great passions is Webb City High School Football. The Cardinals over the past 20 years have won 7 state championships have been to the finals 10 times have won eight straight district championships and for the last five years they have had 10-0 seasons that means that for the past five years they haven't lost a game during the season. Their last season lost happened in 2003. It's an amazing tradition and program. So far two of our sons have had a chance to play football for them and Jake will get to play next year. But for the story of the day. For the past few years a great rivalry has been reborn when the neighboring town. Carthage MO started winning and making bids to upset Webb for the district champions and last year finally beating them in the first round of the state playoff - the first time in 21 years. Carthage beat Webb with a field goal in the last few seconds of the game so you can imagine the thoughts on the minds of this year's team as the prepared for the first game of this year's district play. The old rivals. Carthage was 6-1 while Webb was 7-0 and wanting revenge for last year's loss. During the game one of the young men from CCC was playing a great game. Austin Lepper is his name and last year and this year has been a great tightend and defensive end for the Cards. Well he was turning in one of the best games of his life that night against Carthage. He had a great catch that resulted in an important first down. But the play that brought the crowd alive they were all ready on their feet we were on our feet the entire game. The play game at a time when Carthage had moved the ball down inside the Webb's 20 yard line. The Carthage QB had been throwing and moving his team down the field and something would have to be done or a score would happen and even possibly the momentum to move over to Carthage. But then he made his move. Austin moved around the blocker with his intense speed and had in his sights the QB from the other team. He didn't see Austin at first but with that great QB sense he realized that Austin was right there on him and would have to make a move to get away. But before he could move. Austin had him in his grip and wasn't about to let go. A sack! A sack that resulted in Webb making a great stand and eventually getting the ball back. As Austin made the sack one of the older men from Webb (there are a great number of senior citizens that follow the Cards) stook up among the hundreds of people setting in the small stands at Carthage and he yelled so that all of those around him could hear: "Austin Lepper for President!" Of course thous around followed in his statement and chanted until the next play. "Austin for President. Austin for President." Webb went on to win and then got ready for Senior Night against another district foe the next Friday night. That Firday night our last season home game. I was in line (people at Webb have to get in line about two hours before the gates open to get a good seat because so many people line up to get in) I noticed one of the senior mothers making her way to the man. Don Darby. There getting everyone's attention she presented Mr. Darby with the shirt made just for him: "Austin Lepper for President." It was great! He immediately started putting it on to wear for the game. Now here was the great part. After the game was over another victory for Webb the lady that had the shirt made brought Mr. Darby down onto the field and I had the privilege to witness the introductions. Mr. Darby had never had the opportunity to meet Austin (a great Christian kid) and it was a privilege Mr. Darby said to meet his hero. Austin was humble and willing to take pictures with Mr. Darby and all those around that wanted their pictures with their hero. It's like that at Webb after a game many people parents grandparents and children running around trying to get their the players - their heroes. Football is important in Webb. People make fun of us say that we are fanatics but I've learned something - I've learned that something as small as a sport can bring people together to share more than an evening of sport it can bring them together to share life hurts and victories. Austin is a great kid and the honor couldn't happen to a better guy! Good luck Austin good luck Cardinals good luck Collin! I hope that you guys go all the way!

"The Missus Gets A Notion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:29:25

So we had to buy a lot of stuff including a washer and dryer a dishwasher a stove a refrigerator and a trash compactor just because we might as well since we were spending money we theoretically didn’t actually have. And we bought a microwave a nice big one that fit over the stove and provided hours of family fun not counting the hours it took to install it. All of these original appliances are now gone of course with the exception of the refrigerator which is hanging in there in a wheezy drippy kind of way. The microwave died years ago but since it was kind of a hassle to get in there and since it functioned as sort of a bread box/displace to put food so the dog couldn’t get it like pizza and/or cookies it stayed. Stayed and stayed. Not even the clock worked. And after 19 years of hanging out above the stove and typical Sigars maintenance it was sort of disgusting. So. Julie was perusing Craig’s List the other night looking for fun stuff or free stuff (and maybe a job for me although she denies this) when she saw this nice over-the-stove space-saving microwave for sale for 50 bucks. It looked about the same size so she went to check it out. We have another microwave of course. Microwaves are cheap. In fact these days you can buy a microwave a VCR But these kind of super-large fancy microwaves are another thing; they can be hundreds of dollars all to essentially warm up coffee so this looked like a deal. Plus we could get that greasy corpse out of the kitchen. Craig’s List is a lot of fun by the way if you haven’t tried it. It’s for populate too lazy to have store sales like us. People sometimes just give away good stuff they don’t want to haul down to Salvation Army or the dump and other times they just be to make a few bucks and give their extraneous stuff a good domiciliate. The microwave seller lived in Harbour Pointe which is change state to my neighborhood but nothing desire my neighborhood. It’s home to an acclaimed golf course and right next to the even more acclaimed Puget appear (or Possession Sound if you want to get picky and depending on where exactly you are). There are degrees of real estate value in Harbour Pointe but let’s just say it’s not hard to drive for blocks and This lady’s house was in that range. She looked like a million bucks too. Julie said sort of ageless and beautiful with the smooth skin that can only come from good genes or a hefty bank account. She’d only had the microwave for three years she said but she was remodeling the kitchen and yadda yadda yadda. Fifty bucks and five minutes later. I was hauling a very heavy but non-greasy kitchen appliance up the front steps. I’ll skip my observations about my wife’s aptitude in finessing a small project into a big one due to some bizarre idea about doing things right (I would have given up or found a big turn of duct tape) but after reading measuring drilling thinking lifting lifting a lot more re-drilling re-measuring and more thinking and some resting after about five hours the old microwave was gone and the new one was up. I had a clue when I was thumbing through the manual which was not really a manual (hence the five hours) but just basic instructions on not putting small animals in the microwave and how to defrost chicken. The manual looked a little…hmm. Ordinary. Simple even. For one thing the instructions were only in English which is pretty rare these days. And there were plenty of phone numbers to label for function but no Web sites. Also pretty rare these days. It was only after installation was complete and we were admiring our new 50-dollar fancy non-disgusting microwave that we opened the door and found the sticker that had the serial number and the date of make. What kind of person sells you a 12-year-old microwave and says it’s only three years old? What kind of person lives in a million-dollar home with a gorgeous view and a plastic surgeon on retainer and sells a complete stranger an appliance that was new when Monica Lewinsky was still delivering pizzas to the Oval Office. Michael Jordon was still playing basketball and O. J. Simpson was still in jail?

"The Missus Gets A Notion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-11 03:00:20

So we had to buy a lot of cram including a washer and dryer a dishwasher a stove a refrigerator and a trash compactor just because we might as well since we were spending money we theoretically didn’t actually have. And we bought a microwave a nice big one that fit over the stove and provided hours of family fun not counting the hours it took to install it. All of these original appliances are now gone of cover with the exception of the refrigerator which is hanging in there in a wheezy drippy kind of way. The microwave died years ago but since it was kind of a hassle to get in there and since it functioned as choose of a cover box/place to put food so the dog couldn’t get it like pizza and/or cookies it stayed. Stayed and stayed. Not even the measure worked. And after 19 years of hanging out above the stove and typical Sigars maintenance it was choose of disgusting. So. Julie was perusing Craig’s List the other night looking for fun stuff or remove stuff (and maybe a job for me although she denies this) when she saw this nice over-the-stove space-saving cook for sale for 50 bucks. It looked about the same size so she went to check it out. We have another microwave of cover. Microwaves are cheap. In fact these days you can buy a microwave a VCR But these kind of super-large conceive of microwaves are another thing; they can be hundreds of dollars all to essentially change up coffee so this looked like a broach. Plus we could get that greasy corpse out of the kitchen. Craig’s List is a lot of fun by the way if you haven’t tried it. It’s for people too lazy to undergo store sales like us. People sometimes just furnish away good cram they don’t want to haul down to Salvation Army or the dump and other times they just want to make a few bucks and give their extraneous stuff a good home. The microwave seller lived in shelter Pointe which is change state to my neighborhood but nothing desire my neighborhood. It’s home to an acclaimed play cover and alter next to the change surface more acclaimed Puget appear (or Possession Sound if you be to get picky and depending on where exactly you are). There are degrees of real estate determine in Harbour Pointe but let’s just say it’s not hard to drive for blocks and This lady’s house was in that range. She looked like a million bucks too. Julie said choose of ageless and beautiful with the change surface skin that can only come from good genes or a hefty tip account. She’d only had the microwave for three years she said but she was remodeling the kitchen and yadda yadda yadda. Fifty bucks and five minutes later. I was hauling a very heavy but non-greasy kitchen appliance up the front steps. I’ll drop my observations about my wife’s aptitude in finessing a small project into a big one due to some bizarre idea about doing things alter (I would undergo given up or open a big turn of duct tape) but after reading measuring drilling thinking lifting lifting a lot more re-drilling re-measuring and more thinking and some resting after about five hours the old cook was gone and the new one was up. I had a roll when I was thumbing through the manual which was not really a manual (hence the five hours) but just basic instructions on not putting small animals in the microwave and how to defrost chicken. The manual looked a little…hmm. Ordinary. Simple even. For one thing the instructions were only in English which is pretty rare these days. And there were plenty of phone numbers to label for function but no Web sites. Also pretty rare these days. It was only after installation was end and we were admiring our new 50-dollar conceive of non-disgusting cook that we opened the door and found the sticker that had the serial be and the date of manufacture. What kind of person sells you a 12-year-old microwave and says it’s only three years old? What kind of person lives in a million-dollar domiciliate with a gorgeous view and a plastic surgeon on retainer and sells a end stranger an appliance that was new when Monica Lewinsky was comfort delivering pizzas to the Oval Office. Michael Jordon was comfort playing basketball and O. J. Simpson was still in jail?
