“There is nothing more agreeable than having a place where one can throw on the floor as many cigar butts as one pleases without the subconscious fear of a maid who is waiting like a sentinel to place an ashtray where the ashes are going to fall” I just got one and I'm smoking it this week sometime. I'll let you know then i had my first one a couple days ago and i wasn't impressed. Very tough draw and from what i could tell not a very interesting flavor. Ended up tossing it and lighting up a Oliva series G. But that was just one stick so perhaps not a fair judgement.. __________________"If at first you don't succeed skydiving is not for you." I picked up a bundle off the devil site last night for 35 bucks which is about 60% of the cost anywhere else I see. I figure any offering by RP is worthy of a sample taste even if it doesn't come out worthwhile. I'll be burning one as soon as I get the package in the mail and then after I give them a few weeks to stabilize. “There is nothing more agreeable than having a place where one can throw on the floor as many cigar butts as one pleases without the subconscious fear of a maid who is waiting like a sentinel to place an ashtray where the ashes are going to fall” How'd I miss that in my search? "Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds - How do they compare?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:52:26

Hi all. I was wondering how many of you have had any experience with the Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds that I have seen advertised in such stores as CI? There are a few major questions in my object when I was thinking of purchasing them for my slowly growing humidor:1. How does the comprehend compare to their more expensive 'regular' bands2. How is the displace for these cigars? This is the main thought I had as I wondered if perhaps the cosmetic visuals on the wrapper or filler may result in a draw that is sub-par as compared to the more expensive versions of the same cigars. I am in graduate school so any measure I can save a few dollars here or there I am very open to the opportunity. However. I wanted to make sure that I am not throwing my money out the window as well. Thanks in advance for any insight any of you can give into these questions. To be honest side by align I can't express the difference physically. I can't say that they're any better or worse constructed than the Firsts because every cigar is different. Ditto on the flavor profile. I very much disbelieve anyone but a highly experienced taster could discern the difference and even then that's totally subjective since you could easily have identical cigars have slightly different tastes due to the tobacco used. "Rocky Patel Sun grown vs OSG" posted by ~Ray

I am interested in the RP Sun grown but I've also heard he has a lie called the OSG (Original sun grown). I wondered which is the better smoke? I will likely get some of both but I wanted to see what the BOTLs thought was better. Thanks. Supposedly the OSG lie has been aged because it's production was halted for the Vintage lie of cigars. If you listen to advertising there they sat for over 10 years (or something like that) and they were rediscovered and now they are for sale. I'm not sure I believe that but the OSG's i've had are smooth with lot's of vitamin N. The robusto and Petite corona's are both good. I desire them a little better than the regular sungrown's. __________________Quickly. carry me a beaker of wine so that I may wet my brain and say something clever.... I undergo found the OSG to be a bit on the mild side but there was plenty of flavor. I smoked a sun grown toro last night. I was impressed. I preferred the SG the OSG was a little bland for my tastes. I won't move down an OSG if it's offered to me but I won't be buying any of them. Glad to hear ya tried em both... I agree whole-heartedly... I got 10 OSGs smoked one and gifted the be. They aren't bad just not my cup 'o tea (kinda like those graycliffs). I smoked my first sun grown measure night thinking it was the OSG. I was very impressed but this thread made me check and realize that I undergo 5 OSG's and smoked my only SG last night.
