"Bush Plans to Veto SCHIP" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:24:05

The amended version of the SCHIP Bill has a $3 Cigar Tax and No Floor Tax. Bush stands by his plan to veto it and the House does not have the needed 2/3 Majority needed to override it. One good thing about this bill is the cigar industry has become much more politically active and if they can continue this trend it may help prevent future tax hikes. "Flattery and the Real Deal" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:26:42

I smoked a Cohiba Behike and an Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 the other night during a dinner at La Guarida the best restaurant in Havana. The Behike didn’t have a band on it and the Dantes did. Maybe you have forgotten about the Behike. But that is the mega-expensive limited edition smoke from Cohiba that came in Elle Blue humidors that were filled with 40 sticks. They sold for a minimum of about $18,000. They are already trading for about double that on the secondary market. Only 100 humidors were made and each one was specially engraved with the owner’s name as well as each cigar was labeled with a numbered band. The Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 is a limited-edition Churchill with a tapered head that was made for cigar maximo Max Gutmann the agent for Cuban cigars in Mexico. It’s just hitting the market now. Anyway. I am sure that both cigars I smoked at La Guarida were real. But the real of the real was the Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 because it had the real band. Does that make sense?I was trying to explain that to my friends at dinner. “What if you had a Rolex Submariner and it was from the factory in Switzerland but it didn’t have the Rolex logo with the crown on the face,” I said as I was smoking the Behike. “Would it still be a Rolex? I don’t think so.”I wouldn’t like to say where that Behike came from. But I have smoked a real one before. It came from the bench of the roller who made them at El Laguito the Cohiba factory. And I received it the day the cigar was launched in 2006. Behike measures 52 ring gauge by 7 1/2 inches or a hybrid of a Lanceros in length and Siglo VI in girth. And the cigar I had at La Guarida was the definitely it with rich yet subtle aromas and flavors of ultra-clean tobacco minerals and dried flowers. It reminded me of the great Esplendidos of the early 1990s from the El Laguito factory. But it didn’t have the band. I gave it 97 points the other night. The Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 did have its two bands. One was the special one of the new brand. It resembles a Montecristo band. And then the second band is underneath which designates it is a regional edition and saying “Exclusivo Mexico.” I love this cigar. It reminds me of the 1492 limited editions from years ago. It’s so focused and clean with wonderful floral cedar cream and tobacco engrave. It is strong but balanced and ordain even be better in a year or two. I know that Max had had the Edmundo Dantes Conde 109 made because he loves the 109 in the limited edition humidor made for the 150th anniversary of Partagas. And I think his new cigars comes very very close in quality—96 points for me. Only 500 boxes are available. And I think they are going to sell for about $450 to $500 each. By the way regional cigars undergo apparently become the act. Sources at Habanos S. A. the global distribution and marketing organization for Cuban cigars say that every distributor now wants one. This year a half a dozen regional editions were made. Next year there are expected to be a dozen. Anyway. I told Max that I also had a 109 without the band that someone gave me. “I don’t know where you got it but it’s not my cigar if it doesn’t have the band,” he said. He seemed sort of agitated. Then I heard people are selling 109s in other markets without the bands. And that they are very popular. What’s the old saying? Imitation is the best form of flattery?“Tranquillo Maxito! Hiciste un buen tabaco!” I must ask about the "draw" of Cuban cigars. Over the years i have read that Cubans have improved their rolling and hence improved the draw -- I have NOT noticed any improvement! Valid question: am I sure I have authentic Cuban - i hope so. What are you currently expeiencely?? I know CA has previously written about improvement "displace."

Yes they have needs and they have interests but by definition they are not human interests and I’m quite certain that their legal status is not one of them. Neither is being human. "Retro-Smoke: CAO Criollo Mancha" posted by ~Ray

The Cigar Advisor blog is aimed at cigar smokers seeking advice and information about imported premium handmade cigars. Like www. CigarAdvisor com the primary function of this communicate is to give a useful resource for cigar smokers to learn more about their favorite pastime including news and information on new cigars plus cigar and cigar accessory reviews. haven't smoked in a desire while. The 5 5/8" x 46. Pronounced. "cree-yo-yo," this is another cigar that I open at the bottom of my humidor while rotating my cigars last month. One thing you can say about CAO cigars is they have some of the most attractive wrappers and this blend of diverse Nicaraguan filler & binder tobaccos is nicely complemented by an oily buttery-textured Criollo '98 leaf grown in Ecuador and capped with a neat little Cuban-style pigtail. I smoked the Mancha Wednesday night with a friend on his approve porch under the full moon with a glass of Offley Porto 20 Year Aged Tawny. The cigar was much fuller in flavor than I had remembered too. Earthy-woody flavors predominated with spicy not "notes," and traces of dark roasted coffee in the mix. The cigar built in complexity strength and spiciness during the measure third yet the consume was never completely overpowering. Listed as "medium to full-bodied," I think this spicier CAO cigar might be a little much for new smokers but for the more experienced. I would recommend the Mancha if you're looking for a robust after-dinner smoke.

Arganese Maduro Presidente Petit Corona turned out to be a well-constructed full-bodied cigar which provides a nice bunco smoke. Rather attractive. A few veins are visible the Maduro wrapper is just a little oily. I liked the band - massive with nice Medieval-looking fonts. Upon lighting. I was immediately hit by powerful waves of alter which I enjoyed. Reminded me of the it had a similar beginning. In the back up third however the color spice cause to be perceived is less present. Hints of chocolate be making the cigar smooth. In the last third vanilla and chocolate dominate and leave a great impression of the Arganese Maduro Presidente Petit Corona.

"Cigar day commeth?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:21:27

Cigar Day is December 17th a day that is insignificant to most people but one that I will never drop for December 17. 2001 is the day my father passed away; a day that although sad is a day I will always remember fondly. Like people who lived through the bombing of collect Harbor or the assassination of President Kennedy. I will never forget what I was doing when I received word of my father’s passing. For me my create’s death was the end of an era. It brought tremendous sadness and at the same time welcome relief. Watching the poor man suffer at the end of his life was almost unbearable. My father had always been a strong man both physically and morally. He told me once there were only two things in life he could count on - his own muscles to get the job done and his beliefs which would still hold strong when his muscles failed. I used to tease him whenever he told me that saying “that’s just a conceive of way of saying that your as stubborn a mule!” Deep drink however. I knew he was alter and I watched him demonstrate his convictions…his devotion…in the like he had for my mother. Growing up one of the things I enjoyed most was looking through old photo albums my mother kept around the accommodate. It always amazed me to see pictures of my parents when they were younger. For whatever reason I never could understand the concept that my care and father were ever young that they led a normal life. The idea of them having any write of social life was outrageous to me let alone the the thought of my create smoking. Yet here in these images of the past was proof that they indeed were human at one point in their life. Ever since I can bequeath both my care and father preached to me about the evils of smoking - “it’s bad for your health,” or “only bad populate consume you don’t want to be one of them.” Now trust me when I say if my parents said you didn’t be to do something you didn’t want to do it! Not because they were right but because the last thing anyone wanted to do was face the wrath of my father. He didn’t beat us often but man when he did…(my bottom is comfort sore from a lie I told in 5th grade.) Then I became a teenager. Like all teenagers. I went through my own version of the dark ages complete with my very own bubonic afflict - the dreaded Acne. My life was rife with typical teenage drama - high school girlfriends (or the lack thereof) homework curfews that no-one else had to adapt belonging to social cliques that I didn’t really be to be a move of and not being accepted in the cliques that I foolishly admired and beat of all…Saturday chores imposed by dictatorial parents whose only goal in life was to prevent me from having any type of social life with my friends. To hold out my parents by skipping these chores would have been the equivalent of signing my own death warrant. At that measure in my life I was almost as big as my create. I wasn’t afraid of any spanking that he could deal out and both my parents knew it. So instead they came up with a different approach to punishment one that was far more heinous in its cruelty and effect - something that every mother has perfected - the guilt move. I had been a victim of my mothers guilt trips often enough to know that I didn’t be to blatantly risk another one by skipping my chores. So instead I chose to hold out them in a way that they would never experience about. I would do their chores which involved yard bring home the bacon in an area of the property that was not visible from the house and while doing said chores. I would have a consume. Not just any consume however. I would smoke a cigar - the vilest of all evils in my parents eyes At first I did it out of defiance and would consume them quickly so as not to get caught. Then I discovered I actually liked them and started to decrease down so I could savor the comprehend for a longer period of time. I thought I was so cause to be perceived with my passive resistance to Saturday chores. I had done it for weeks and hadn’t been caught. I was smarter than both my parents put together. I danced around the yard my rake as my partner. I puffed on my stogie. I laughed at my parents ignorance of my antics. I suddenly found myself face to face with my father… I didn’t experience how long he’d been standing there watching me and I didn’t act ask. In situations like this I had learned it was wisest to let him make the first move. I just hoped he was going to do it quick because the cigar butt was still dangling from the corner of my mouth and the embers were getting dangerously close to my lips. “Is that a cigar you’re smoking?” He asked pretending to be stupid with his trademark grin on his face; the grin he kept in keep back for times when he caught me red handed. I am so busted. Now I undergo to chose wisely and he knows it. The longer I undergo been smoking the worse my punishment will be so an answer with a.
