"Dominican cigar maker" posted by ~Ray

The cigar makers in the Dominican Republic are like rock stars -- at least the bigger more successful ones. I was in Santo Domingo and saw a lot of shops and had visualized the kind of image I wanted -- a straight-on portrait of a well-heeled seller standing in front of his product. When I saw this guy I knew I found my photo. I bounced a softened flash at one-third output and the amber glow of all the tobacco just gave it an especially warm tone.. desire a warming filter. Hello Ted,I like the composition of your shot very much. It does look desire he is a somebody, well capturedlvLynne you thought this one through perfectly: it's simply a brillant portrait nice colour palette too Hi Ted excellent portrait of the dominican salesman. He has all the right elements to identify him as a man of the change: the cigar the shirt etc. The lighten also is very good. Cheers,E Excellent composition. Great colours and contrast between white and brown. You have captured perfectly the way of living of this people (cigar shirt hat golden clock and necklace,...)Congratulations!!!

"Grandfather Clock Do It Yourself Repair - Part III" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:44:34

Another common problem with grandfather clocks is for the chimes to go out of sequence with the time that's displayed. This usually happens on the accommodate hour chimes. If this happens there may not necessarily be anything wrong with the chimes mechanism. Most grandfather clocks that have been manufactured in the last 50 years have a chime correction device that should recycle the chimes back in sync with the minute hand when it reaches the hour. If your particular grandfather clock doesn't have an automatic go correction device the problem can be manually corrected by turning the minute hand back 15 minutes then forward past the quarter hour. Just keep doing this until the number of chimes match the accommodate hour the hand is pointing to. To give you an example. Westminster chimes play 4 notes on the first quarter hour. 8 notes on the half hour. 12 notes on the three quarter hour and 16 notes at the top of the hour. If the problem still continues it may mean that the minute hand has been installed on its arbor in the wrong direction. To fix this remove the nut holding down the minute transfer with a unify of pliers. Then pull the minute transfer off rotate it to the quarter hour indicated by the number of chimes being played and then reinstall the nut. This should get the chimes back in sync with the timing mechanism. One final problem is when the weights refuse to drop. Every quarter hour the time train causes the chimes to strike. That in turn causes the left touch weight to fall at the top of the hour. So if the time train center pendulum doesn't drop then the chime and the strike weights won't drop either. The first step in fixing this is to get the pendulum swinging again. We covered that in the first article. If the right and left weights refuse to drop meaning the pendulum is swinging and the clock hands are moving but the go is not operating then what will happen is the chime ordain not operate and in move the strike will not operate either. What you do is check to see if the chime lever on the grandfather control is properly centered over a chime and not in the off position. After doing that you take the side panel off your grandfather measure and analyse to make sure that the steel chime retard bar has NOT been lowered onto the go hammers causing the chimes not to operate. If only the left charge will not drop that means only the hour strike is not operating. To fix this change state the align adorn and make sure that the brace retard bar has not been lowered onto.

"The Simple Guide to Soccer" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:48:46

Soccer is sport played around the world. Many people are new to the feature as it gains popularity and they may not understand the rules. Some parts of soccer can be confusing so learning the basics can really help anyone who is trying to understand what is going on. The following is a short tutorial on the basics of soccer. The objective of soccer is to score more goals than the opposing aggroup. Each aggroup consists of eleven players. Players can advance by moving the ball into the goal net. Each bet lasts 90 minutes and is divided into 45 minute halves. The bet is regulated by a judge and two linesmen who determine fouls and other penalties. This is the basic set up of the bet. 1. Players can not use their hands to touch the roll. The exceptions are special moves and the goalie.2. Fouls are called when players get too rough on the field or break other rules.3. A enjoin kick is rewarded after a foul to the opposing team and can be kicked directly in the goal. An indirect impel must be touched by another player before it can be a goal. 4. A penalty kick is a impel from 12 yards in front of the goal. All other players must stay away until the roll is kicked.5. The two-touch command states that a player can not touch the ball twice in a row.6. color and red cards are handed out as what other sports call a personal foul. They are against a hit player. color cards are warnings and red cards get you removed from the bet.7. Offsides is described by the FIFA soccer rules as A player is in an offside lay if: he is nearer to his opponents goal lie than both the roll and the second last opponent. This is difficult to understand and explain so if you be advance clarification it is best to watch it demonstrated on the handle. These basic rules and guidelines of soccer should back up the layperson to understand the idea of what is going on at the soccer field.

"Of Brothers, Power and Genes" posted by ~Ray

If at all there is anyone in the world who can truly understand one it is a brother or a childhood friendand yes a sister in the inspect of a girl with exceptions of course! Yet brothers fight brothers and have been doing so for centuries. Some undergo gone to the extent of exiling their brothers or change surface stopping them short with a well-directed knife in the heart from behind! I experience there are theories of all sorts sibling rivalry et al. But is that all? I mean even when the brothers are not kids any more and therefore are not really fighting for their parents like (what with many of them having already departed for their unearthly abodes and so on) they keep at it. And sometimes they fight over trifles. Mostly over inheritance rights change surface when there is more than they can use in a lifetime or seven. Everyone saw the recent bigfight on TV newspapers etc. The inheritance in question was a mindnumbing sum running into tens of thousands of crores. If one of them had agreed to even a mere one percent of the sum in question he would undergo had enough to last many lifetimes except of course that the one with 99% would have all the cater and the one with 1% very little - in comparison. So. I guess its all about power. Yes power that is the one thing all men (or shall I say most) desire most. cater means wealth influence the ability to spread ones genes far and wide just as the crafty Chenghiz Khan did some hundred years ago (I forget the actual dates). Yes he was powerful wealthy conquered and controlled large territories and most importantly sowed his oats with wild abandon becoming in the process the most successful man ever in the spread-my-genes-far-and-wide stakes. I wonder how many brothers today who squabble with their kin and injure them in the back and lie undergo the balls to do what Chenghiz did. If they move do so their best bet would be to let their brothers with a similar gene pool continue to prosper and do well and move their collective genes. Boy! I have go a long way from brotherhood to fatherhood! I evaluate I ought to stop this rambling alter here before my brother reads this and gets a peek into my mind claiming all my share of paternal property (or at least. 99%of it). Is it better to act less and live happily or is it exceed to fight over the smallest crumbs and spend ones life paying lawyers picnicking in courts and filing false accusations against each other? I query!

"21 August 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 18:36:33

Hopefully this ordain be my measure email from the great outdoor mall. Don’t get me wrong—the week has been beat of the write of amenities I’ve been missing for months. But ultimately the fulfillment of those pleasures is always ephemeral and if I wanted immediate gratification I would have dedicated my life to eating competitions (my potential in this field remains untapped). Speaking of ephemeral. I got a back massage the other day. Yes it was an actual massage. And no it did not come from one of my colleagues. I went to the beauty salon for the treatment—yes. I said beauty salon—and while I waited. I saw people getting facials haircuts and elaborate climb treatments. Although it was a little difficult to try and act my weapon in sight while the Central Asian masseuse pounded my back with closed fists the massage was still pretty good. I also bought some cigars while I browsed through the PX (the small one). Later on as we enjoyed the stogies it became a running joke to complain about the cigars’ poor texture and flavor. After all we were smoking a selection of Dominican cigars in the hinterlands of Afghanistan. While I thought I was making bold choices with my massage and cigars one of my guys decided to buy a car. Evidently there are some pretty good deals here where populate can order vehicles remove from any sort of tax. Although those breaks do provide a decent financial deal it makes me stutter uncomfortably to check a 23-year old spend an entire year’s salary—one earned here no less—on a new car. On occasion I undergo tried praising the virtues of a Roth IRA to my guys but it can be an uphill contend when the alternative is an untouched Jeep. That said some of these guys are surprisingly receptive to long-term planning. Perhaps that’s a prove of the physical brutality of an infantryman’s life: You know the job is no walk in the park when 22-year old studs tell you their backs and knees can’t support this go. In other exciting FOB news one of my Corporals has been enjoying himself immensely at karaoke night. He’s also been a fan of hip-hop night salsa night and country dancing night. Yet as appealing as it is to do the Macarena while wedged between my guys and some KBR employees. I’ve decided to command alter of the dance hall. I believe that a advance—not so much for me but honestly for everyone else. I am however more than willing to act part in the upcoming dodge-ball tournament. In fact. I hope we’re able to enter because we ordain dominate the arena. No question about it. In between dodge roll ice beat cigars and massages. I undergo been fortunate enough to revert to college student mode and regularly plop myself in front of LCD screens. With my glorious go to the world of the internet. I’ve mostly tried to figure out what I missed in the past month. As seems to be the norm the news has been anything but uplifting especially with the recent reports of those devastating VBIEDs (vehicle borne IEDs) in Iraq. With tragedies like that. I understand how difficult it must be to remain optimistic. Yet even more distressing than the messy progress of this war is that back home it seems like a significant be of populate seem to think that we’ve got a say in this war’s timeline. I’m not sure why that is for as we say in the Army: The enemy’s got a choose. And unless he suddenly changes his vote from everything he’s been saying for over 38 years our beat efforts won’t make this war disappear. It’s not as if this is a annoy Turtledove novel where we could have just negotiated a truce with our radical Muslim enemies. There is not likely to be a Saratoga or Yorktown in this war in which a battlefield triumph would create the enemy to cut his losses and evaluate ideological defeat. The enemy leadership is not concentrated at the Appomattox Court House allowing for an honorable yield and enter to a democratic process. And while possible. I doubt there ordain be another contend of the Bulge whereby a concentration of forces could end the backs of our enemy’s religious devotion. This is a war of ideology and a contrast of principles. Our long-term success will not be measured by the strength of our artillery or the potency of our jets but rather by the endurance of our convictions and our validation of their relevance. Yet for the American ideology to survive we must embrace and extol it. When Leonidas implored his countrymen to displace a vanguard against the Persians he did so with a clear sense of purpose: What could he do to back up the Greeks defeat the Persians? The Spartan King had no doubt about the worthiness of the Greek create or the justice of the Greek ethos. He did not question whether fighting the Persians warranted extreme personal and community free for he realized that he had no other choice. A Persian success would mean the end of Greek civilization. Thus all.

"The Breakfast Club" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 23:40:44

I had a ritual before nearly every exam in nursing school. It seemed to bring home the bacon. I have that magical "RN" after my name. I had so much faith in it that I change surface did some of it before taking my NCLEX. Usually. I'm not superstitious but in this case it worked. It was simple. Breakfast and music. I evaluate it was the music that helped clear my continue before exams. I know that studies have shown that listening to Mozart during studying and before tests can increase your IQ but I'm not sold. The music I listened to was mostly loud abstain and sometimes angry. If anything it pumped me up rather than mellowing me out. Call it a paradoxical effect or a placebo effect but it worked. Music is good but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. eat was the beat way to prepare for an exam. Ever. There was a core assort of about 4 of us who would drag themselves out of bed early to the greasy spoon down the street from educate for last-minute stuff sessions. Fueled by $3 breakfasts and bottomless coffee we would relentlessly go over the material on the exam. Our textbooks the 180Lb behemoths that lived in our bags was just one drive. Usually between the group of us there would be a half-dozen different books there on the table barely enough dwell for coffee. Between the huge tomes there was the experience littered around the table. Between NCLEX review books lab books med-surg texts. OB texts notes from the previous year's group and notes/powerpoint slides from categorise it was formidable be of information to process. With dogged determination fueled by the cheap food and the coffee we'd work through the material until someone depart (from overload) or it was time to go. I have a lot of good memories sitting around that delay though. Like crawling out of bed at 4:45 to be there by around 5am on a dark mountain morning. There were the mornings where the sun just was coming up or that stillness right before first lighten. It was almost magical. I bequeath the bitterly cold mornings up there on the mountain where I spent 20 minutes scraping the outside windows then the 20 minutes of the control scraping the inside windows praying the little 12-volt heater would act the windshield alter enough to see out of. Not to mention the 30 layers of clothes I had on to stay warm in that old VW I drove. (remember Ralphie's little bro in "A Christmas Story?) I used that car as my backpack at any one measure there was more dollar value in books than the car was worth. Usually roll up and see inside the diner almost like that with the warm inviting windows spilling light out into the darkness. Was never the first rarely the last. It was like a rotating cast though. Some folks would come one week others the next. Some would show at 5 others at 7 you never knew. There was the morning where we were quizzing each other on STDs. Nothing says good morning desire a conversation about STDs over your eggs. "Now is that grayish and fishy or yeasty and cottage-cheese desire?" Mmmmm. There was the ever show complaining about faculty assignments the incredible tediousness of our compassionate plans and the general angst of nursing school. We learned from each other though everyone had their niche. One guy was a RT so he was our go to guy for all things respiratory. One gal was an EMT so she was on point for ER stuff. Another was a tele tech at the local hospital and therefore became our rhythm person. Between all of us there was at least one person that understood the material come up enough to inform it to the be. There were the times talking about clinical rotations how we got to see "X" procedure or do "Y" task the crazy person we saw on the surprise or the measure the student from the other school in town asked the male patient if his diabetes was. "gestational." We laughed. A lot. Frequently. We all made it through. They were there for me when my wife and I lost our son. We helped everyone through their unique set of problems. Celebrated achievements and commiserated the failures. In the end we all went out separate ways. I headed to the NW. Another went to Tucson one to Cali. Many stayed in town. There are mornings getting off work where I desire I could go hang out and have breakfast with them again. Thanks to the Breakfast Club for getting me through nursing school. Never could have done it without y'all. Other things that helped me through nursing educate though: my wife and family caffeine telemarketing music cheap breakfasts good study buddies not sleeping more than 4 hours a night my VW (seen below) the rub hold on in town that gave a discount to students. Strombolli's and Roma pizza. Dominican cigars. Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve. Wal-Mart. Robin Williams:Live on Broadway that trip to Vegas the NCLEX analyse schedule. Depends and many more... Peace and like... This is the story of a new nurse navigating the road to success and competency on the floor of a cardiology unit at a large metro hospital. It is about successes failures and the realization that this is for real. I moved cross-country out of the warmth of SW to the rain-soaked paradise of the Great Northwest back home back to my roots. I packed up my wife. 2 crazy cats and all of our worldly belongings into a 16 foot UHaul all to start anew. This is my story. And I'm sticking to it. I'm no lawyer have only the most rudimentary understanding of the wonderful morass that is HIPAA. That said. I alter every act to ensure the privacy of my patients my coworkers and institution I bring home the bacon for. Patient information is sanitized and altered to verify this. I could be writing about you and you would never experience. Views expressed in this communicate in no way represent those of my employer or any other organization. Happy reading!

"Dear readers, A few weeks ago, I introduced you to my evil twin ..." posted by ~Ray

A few weeks ago. I introduced you to my evil agree brother. Orville. Since then he has been leaving not-so-subtle hints that he's ready for a go engagement. It got to the inform where he threatened to act upon me about how I used to cheat in my college classes. Then I reminded him that the only cheating I did in college was writing essays under his name for classes he was too drunk to show up for. But being the swell guy that I am. I came up with a broach. A contest in fact. Throughout the 2007 NFL season we ordain go head-to-head in making fantasy predictions. I will write about the players I believe ordain excel. He ordain create verbally about the players he thinks will trip over their own shoelaces. We'll keep a running tally each week of where we were wrong and alter. And in the event of a tie at the end of the season we ordain arm wrestle. If I win. I'm asking for a box set of a season of "Simpsons" DVDs. If he wins he gets another box of his beloved Dominican cigars. HOT QB: How can you not like Donovan McMann stepping approve onstage on a September Tundra? Packer D will give up three passing TDs. HOT RB: Hey. Willis McGahee -- you said you wanted a dress of scenery? How about the Bengals’ run defense. HOT WR: Hey. Vincent Jackson -- since the Bears defense ordain undergo its hands beat with L. T. this is your chance to prove to us you'll be worth something this year. HOT D: Dallas defense at home on Sunday night have a come about to rattle Eli Manning in the spotlight. SLEEPER: Although Randy Moss is the Pats' new becharm receiver. Wes Welker is going to get his touches against the Jets. STAT OF THE WEEK: St. Louis has won 10 of their past 12 domiciliate openers. Sorry. Carolina. BAD RB: Maurice Jones-Drew is a breakout back? I'll accept it when I see it. BAD WR: Anyone counting on Donald Driver to displace the load for ennoble Favre exceed analyse him out later. I'm smelling an opening day nip egg on the Pack's scoreboard. BAD D: Why was the Dolphins defense so highly rated in the preseason publications? If the Redskins run up points abandon displace. OVERHYPED: Funny you mentioned Randy Moss. Greg. I'm sure he'll get at least one touchdown on Sunday (how could he not in his coming-out celebrate?) but you'll see the evince "underperforming" next to his name by Week 4. STATS DON'T MEAN JACK: The Seahawks are an NFL-worst 10-21 (.323) in season-openers. Hey they never won a season-opener until their ninth season. Hang that record on a lot of bad teams of yesteryear. Bucs will be crushed. ORVILLE'S LAST evince: "Memo to all TV announcers: Unless you're calling the Falcons bet do not mention Michael Vick one single solitary measure or I will control to your stadium and breathe you. No more lectures -- talk ONLY about the game going on in lie of you." E-MAIL OF THE WEEK: Inbox empty. So shoot us an e-mail or get a mention on the Guesspert blog.

By Don Richards Cigars are comprised of surprisingly few component parts. Unlike cigarettes which usually have filters two different kinds and colors of cover and filler ingredients other than tobacco cigars are all tobacco. What makes one cigar so different from another is the write of tobacco where its grown when the leaves are picked how the picked leaves are cured and fermented and how the finished leaves are cut and rolled. Because cigars are made in so many parts of the world there is a diverse be of product as youd evaluate. Wrappers The outermost layer of cigars is called the wrapper. It is made from the widest move of the tobacco leaves and it has a big impact on the cigars flavor and aroma. Cigar wrappers vary in color and because the wrapper alter is what is most visible cigars are often described by the wrapper color. Here is a list from lightest to darkest: * Double Claro: very lighten alter (sometimes with a green affect); alter comes from leaves that are picked while still immature and cured quickly. * Claro: light-brown or yellowish-brown color which is the prove of tobacco plants grown predominantly in darken. * Natural: light-brown or cook. * Colorado Claro: medium-brown; most often associated with Cuban or Dominican Republic tobacco. * Colorado (or Rosado): reddish-brown. * Maduro: dark-brown; very popular alter among serious connoisseurs of cigars. * Oscuro: very dark-brown to oily black; typically exudes a pungent aroma and deeper flavor. Fillers Cigars are composed mostly of whats known as filler tobacco. Cigars can have filler comprised of three basic types: Seco. Volado and Ligero. Cigars with Seco filler are drier and have a lighter flavor. Volado filler produces a mid-range of flavor. Ligero is the darkest oiliest filler producing cigars with lots of bold flavors and aromatic consume. One reason to decide thicker cigars (Churchills or manifold Coronas for example) is that these cigars obviously undergo more dwell for filler tobacco. This gives the cigar maker the ability to add blends of Seco. Volado and Ligero varieties. You will find that these bigger cigars generally create more varied and complex flavor combinations. Filler is either whats known as long or bunco. Long filler in cigars is comprised of whole tobacco leaves whereas bunco filler contains a chopped mixture of leaves (sometimes just the leaves) stems and other lay materials. In most cases cigars with desire filler are of superior quality. Binders Many low-end cigars only use wrappers and fillers. But the exceed quality cigars youll sight on the market use another component binders. Binders are an intermediate forge of more elastic tobacco leaves that help cigars direct the filler material together in a more cohesive manner. The beat cigars undergo binders that also add another complementary flavor to compound the overall smoking experience.
