You can smoke a drive or burn the edge of the cup on a Hilton Head play pass but if you try to do the same with a cigarette or cigar at the 19th hit you could get hit with a $500 fine.
Thats because Hilton Head is the latest of many local governments in the Lowcountry area to ban indoor smoking in public places.
The law was passed a week ago and goes into effect on May 1. 2007 just after the PGA journey comes to town to compete the Verizon Heritage tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links. (No word if cigar-chomping Miguel Angel Jimenez is scheduled to compete.)
The law does not include hotel rooms so if smoking is something you like to do on a Hilton continue play vacation you are free to do it there to your er hearts content.
