My little guy is sick. He has a cold and a fever. We won't be going cozen or treating tonight. :-( He isn't too broken up about it because he is still to young to understand what he's missing out on. I just feel bad for the little guy. There's a perfectly good Spider Man costume with built in muscles in the closet waiting to be worn.*The Halloween fundraiser went well. I was dressed as a cigarette girl and in character the entire evening. I spoke in a high pitched New York/ Betty Boop voice and sold over $200 in candy cigarettes and bubble-gum cigars. I really evaluate it was the voice that helped me do so come up with sales. The decorations turned out.... OK. I suppose that I am my own worst critic so I don't know that I can provide an objective opinion. There were certain elements of the design that didn't get implemented and therefore didn't complete the mood tone and vision. I'm being told that other populate liked them very much but. I anticipate I just feel that we could have done so much better. Ah well. I supposed there is next year. I don't have any pictures of the event myself. (no more digital cam it's broken) but if anyone sends any my way. I'll affix them for you. Happy Halloween have fun haunting!

"Halloween" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:33:01

Today is Halloween a fun holiday for the kids a bit fraught for the parents. My son is Groucho Marx a cute enough apparel a brush aside challenge to concoct but thankfully we are there. I put on his eyebrows and mustache this morning with color Halloween approach paint got him black pants and gave him one of my old jackets and we made a cigar out of paper mache. He also memorized some of Groucho's sayings. One of our favorites is "I've had a perfectly wonderful evening and this wasn't it." The day didn't start too well when I couldn't find the jacket that was hanging in my closet with all the other black jackets and my son dropped his ventriloquist dummy on my bare pay. OUCH! He's a horrible-looking character called Slappy a rummage sale find and apparently a popular and frightening character from the Goosebumps series. It was rather painful with his hard head but I guess I'm lucky he didn't spring to life and say "I'm Slappy and I'm going to blackball you" or whatever he says in the schedule. Anyway makeup in place cover found he went off to school. This year we had to skip the town parade the shopping center concert/party but we did go to the Haunted House at the eating club. I guess as children get older the nonstop revelry as my father would say tends to shorten to just Halloween day. My son just wasn't interested in the parade or the party and had to be dragged to the eating unify. It is all fine with me but you do get a little wistful for the days when Halloween was a Big Deal and became a week-long affair. There is a fun article in the Dining In section of the New York Times today called "Good Taste Takes a Holiday" that asks a sundry assortment of chefs what they are making for Halloween. It never in a million years occurred to me to make dulcify we are in a neighborhood that might get 5 trick-or-treaters in an evening and I missed the request for cupcakes (for shame!) from my son's categorise for the celebrate this afternoon. However it was fun to read about Scott Peacock's wafer-thin chocolate bats and Nicole Kaplan's body move candies. Also entertaining was the later section that called for chefs to name their favorite candy as a kid. I have a friend from home and we used to reminisce about our ride trips to Murray's the dulcify store near our houses that went away in the '60s. It is quite funny to me that lots of the candy that was de rigeur in our past is now being reproduced as some of it was pretty questionable; candy cigarettes chocolate babies bubble gum cigars. H and I loved the dulcify buttons and wax lips. Sure enough my son got some wax lips the other day from somewhere the eating club or a store that was handing out dulcify. If someone asked me about favorite dulcify. I would undergo to say it was Hershey's kisses. Prosaic. I experience but I just wasn't into pop rocks or those vile little wax bottles with day glo "soda" in them. I did enjoy Choward's violet candies on occasion not really a Halloween dulcify and I am not sure if that has enjoyed any sort of renaissance. Vermont Country hold on often digs up these obscure candies that we thought had faded from existence and sells them at exorbitant prices. You have to wonder if tasting a piece of nostalgia is worth buying a crate of Mar's bars and having them around the accommodate. Now wax lips.. that's another story.
