Posted on 2008-10-13 06:20:14

There are many kinds of Mexican cookies some of which are specifically for parties celebrations and others which make a special treat at any time. There are Mexican wheat cookies. Mexican sugar cookies. Mexican painted cookies and many more mouthwatering varieties. These cookies are all sweet and tasty and they literally melt in the mouth. These are Mexican traditional cookies made from shortbread. Mexican wedding cookies are very popular and they often feature groundnuts such as almonds pecans and walnuts. These cookies are served at Christmas weddings and anniversaries. Sweden and Russia also enjoy these cookies calling them teacakes. Why not find a Mexican wedding cookie recipe and make your own the next time there is a special event? Biscochitos are also popular throughout Mexico. They originated in Spain. The Spanish brought these cookies to Mexico. Biscochitos are made from aniseeds and are sprinkled with cinnamon. The exact ingredients in a biscochitos recipe do vary depending on the baker. Some have wine or orange juice for extra flavor. These delicious Mexican cookies are cut into diamond shapes using a cookie cutter and they are often served as an accompaniment to wine. These cookies are also known as cochinos or puerquitos. They are also called “gingerbread pigs” in some places although ginger is not an ingredient. Marranitos are shaped like pigs. Traditionally this cookie got its spicy taste from molasses. Mexican bakers place brown sugar in cones to make molasses. They boil it with water until it turns into syrup. Once it has turned into the syrup it is then added to the dough for the little pigs. The cookie is very moist and rich in taste with a flaky top. Originating from Spain. Churros are tasty fried cookies that are seen in both Mexico and other countries. It is made from a light paste that is sweetened. The paste is piped into oil and fried until golden brown. Cinnamon is added to make it taste even sweeter. Churros are best when eaten warm. It is typical to find street vendors selling Churros. They can make them fresh right on the street. It used to be difficult to find churros outside Hispanic areas in the past. They were only sold at sporting events and carnivals and if you wanted churros you would have to find a churros recipe and make your own. Now that Latin food is gaining popularity all over the world you can find churros in Mexican grocery stores and in local restaurants. Some churros have an inner filling such as apple chocolate or strawberry but this was not part of the traditional recipe. Americans love the flavor of churros and many other nationalities are discovering them for themselves too. Churros are often eaten with coffee for breakfast or a snack at any time. As you can see there are plenty of types of Mexican cookies. You might like to visit a Mexican grocery store and taste a few different types. You might even want to follow a churros recipe or Mexican wedding cooking recipe and make your own tasty Mexican treats!

"Costa Rica Scorecard" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-08-04 13:11:53

OK so we got back form the land of Pura Vida last night. I went with my son T and. Before we went I made a list of things I wanted to get done while there. Here is the scorecard of what worked out plus a few more tidbits... - did it. We saw 2 volcanoes. The first was kinda crummy though due to heavy rain being cold at 9000+ feet in altitude and cloud cover obscuring tthe crater and other key features. The 2nd was great. We had clear views and even saw it erupt and lava flow. We wanted to cook marshmellows off the lava but were advised that was a bad idea. - did it. This was the most surprising part of the trip. I usually get burnt bad when I spend any volume of time outdoors. Somehow I eluded being cooked alive. Don't ask how. - I never took could but I know how to get a beer and ask where the bathrooms are. Those are really the only things you need to know. Everything else is just verbal filler. Saw.. both oceans iguanas geikos multiple "oh my god" bridgeszip lineddropped Kelly and dislocated her keecap dancinghit kelly in the head with an oarknocked Kelly into the ocean from a kayakhit Kelly in head with caneburnt feet on sandwent without computer/internet/blackber ry for 10 daysswung on a "Tarzan swing"made lots of friendsbought too many souveniersmailed lots of postcardsgot burned out on beans and ricework up early a LOTrode on a bus a LOTgot wet and cold hiking in the rain foresthot tubbed in many tubs that were not hothot tubbed in a 113 degree tub for 2 secondsOverall it was a great trip. "Thirsty Troll Brew Fest - Mount Horeb, WI" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:31:07

Germany!?!) on a map. The extent of my interaction with Belgium was a vague knowledge of their soccer league (I'm comfort not entirely sure how I came into possession of a unify Brugge soccer jersey). And the fact that Guiness is in Ireland really held no special significance object that I knew I could consume it on St. Patty's Day with cast aside. In other words. I wasn't the full-blooded regional craft beer snob that you see before you today. I thought beverage snobbery was relegated to wine and scotch. Little did I know. After all beer is.. well.. beer. It's something that you consume with a echo for God's sake (we'll do by the snobbery and conoisseurship of items that can be consumed in bongs). When was the measure time you saw a wine echo? Or a scotch bong? Standing on your head to drink beer is considered a skill. But beer unlike booze and forbid is a social drink. While booze parties exist and forbid parties too they are nothing to the all-night kegger. booze parties are something that you invite your close friends to and sip while discussing whether Bitsy is handling her pregancy well or whether Tad is going to get that offer of partnership. Scotch is beat consumed in a dark room with your closest confidantes with an "imported" cuban cigar. But beer. There's an exuberance an interactivity to beer that makes it perfect to consume in quantities with total strangers. Of course beer doesn't to be consumed a dozen at a time. Pouring a Sam Adams Uptopia (25% abv) into a snifter to be sipped gently (pinky sticking straight out of course) while reading Kant and Vonnegut is about as far from your typical evening with beer as you can get. Yet both the kegged American lighten lager and the American strong ale are part of our (American) brewing language. Neither is more or less authentic beer than the other. There is a place in the lexicon for both. And this dichotomy of ranges but inclusiveness of tastes is what makes beer fests desire Mount Horeb's Thirsty circle Brew Fest such great events. Hippies lawyers college kids tourists (hippie law students from Iowa?) and the curious all packed into Grundahl Park to sip everything from Spotted Cow to Autumnal blast. Packed under the big tent on a beautiful last-day-of-summer the hordes could act their complimentary 4 oz sampler glass up to any one of dozens of breweries and brew pubs and sample any one of almost one hundred beers sodas and wines. As for the event itself; it seemingly went off without a hitch. We were greeted with a brewery enumerate useful pencil (provided by this book site with a handsome "www madisonbeerreview com" stenciling) a sampler glass and a little marble to displace into a bucket of our favorite brewery. There were no long lines or long waits. There could have been more food. The music by Madison favorites was surprisingly good. It's the fifth year the Mount Horeb domiciliate of Commerce has put on this event. The Thirsty Troll create from raw material Fest is gloriously Wisconsin-centric. Only three breweries were from out of express (to be fair there were two out-of-state no-shows) but change surface those three are widely available and loved here (Bells. nip Island and Summit). It acts as a great showcase for the craft brewing industry in Wisconsin (we'll put "craft" in quotes though since as we've discussed before it's seems difficult to accumulate Leinies or even nip Island or Sprecher into the "fashion" label). If only more had shown (or been invited?). It would be nice to see Viking. Central Waters and some of the other "North Woods" breweries represented; but practically every major Southern Wisconsin fashion brewery was there (though no Lakefront and no Brewery Creek). The beers they brought were representative of their breweries. My only qualm is that with the exception of nip Island's Matilda. Capital's Autumnal Fire and two beers from Sprecher there were very few "special" beers there. Tyranena did not carry their Brewers Gone Wild series; no specialties from New Glarus. Grays. Ale Asylum. Lake Louie. Sand Creek or arrive at. Being Wisconsin-centric and the end of pass the beers themselves were mostly wheats and transport beers. A few brought along their Oktoberfests and IPAs. But there were very few porters or stouts or dark lagers. That isn't a complaint; just an observation. For me the winner of the day was a small brewpub come UW-M in Milwaukee. With names like "Moustache go Pale Ale" and an IPA that triggers twitches it's so bitter it's exactly the type of small brewer striking it on their own that makes Wisconsin such an exciting place for beer lovers. The fact that Stonefly and Leinies can co-exist under the same dwell makes the Thirsty Troll Brew Fest such a book exhibition of Wisconsin beer. So kudos to Mount Horeb. Thanks for the fine beers and the local breweries. We be forward to the brew fest reappearance next year; hopefully your continued success will carry more Wisconsin breweries into the change surface.

"Ten Mistakes When Taking A Cruise" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 00:27:01

Mistake #1: Not Making Your Luggage Distinctive. At the end of your cruise your luggage will be placed in a huge dwell with THOUSANDS of pieces of luggage probably in some designated area based on the color of a luggage tag provided by the ship. No matter how familiar you think you are with your own luggage it s amazing how come up your bags ordain blend in . look at their Find a Cruise divide and select "single" under their heading of Lifestyle. This article written by Don Diebel (Americas #1 Singles Expert). If you would like more free dating tips on how to successfully meet go out draw. ... BUT that isn t the main cerebrate to make your luggage stand out. You will be entering this cavernous room with a couple thousand other people some of whom stayed up all night partying. They are going to be impatient to get their bag and get out and there is a fairly good chance that their vision isn t so good. If your bag looks desire their bag it could be a goner. And if a stranger does take your luggage it could be hours change surface days before you . starting with sailors who jumped ship to pirates who are rumored to have buried many treasures on the islands. (Many of which are claimed to be comfort undiscovered!) The majority of the night life in the Bahamas happens in Nassau. ... Do something durable and noticeable to your luggage so that it not only is recognizable to you but also let s bleary-eyed fellow travelers know that your bag is not their bag. Put stickers on it create a day-glo streak around it sew a teddy bear onto the outside just make sure it stands out. identify #2: Not Researching Shore Excursions Beforehand. It should go as no surprise that journey line advertising folks have the ability to describe each and every shore excursion as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Of cover no cruise is complete without shore excursions and many of them are absolutely wonderful chances to do things you would never do otherwise. . a vacation journey you ordain write a waiver before you change surface board the ship that releases the journey ship company from any responsibility should you have any thefts or losses while on your cruise. This shows you that you need... But be smart here. It s authorise to get hoodwinked into thinking that palm trees do sway all day long and that smooth feels like silk under your feet. But it s a whole nother thing to be looking forward to that perfect serene afternoon on a remote land only to find out you have 500 friends some with young kids crowding around you and bumping into your beach chair while vendors hawk everything from coconut shells to t-shirts. . to those in need. In pre-modern times nuns and military officers often provided nursing services. In fact the religious and military roots of modern nursing remain in evidence until today. For example in Great Britain senior female nurses are called... be afraid to ask for one if your experience is truly unacceptable. Better still sight out what you re getting before you go. Many (if not most) shore excursions are just great and you ll be happy you went. But adjoin your stump and you ll be glad you did. Mistake #3: Runaway Bar Tabs. Unless you specifically choose a case that includes it your bar tab is NOT included in the all inclusive move of your cruise. Adding to the grip is the ubiquitous 15% gratuity that gets added to every purchase you make on board a ship. . a queen-sized bed for couples. The cruise staterooms have wall-to-wall carpeting individually controlled air conditioning/heating dresser or storage lay confine telecommunicate and satellite television. The television usually has news sports local on-ship channels for broadcasting information on border excursions or... You re on a cruise! So pay attention to how much you consume. Those cute little umbrellas drinks that come in a stunning canary-yellow cup will cost you about twice what a basic cocktail costs. Cruise ship booze is already costly enough; you don t be to help them out by spending more for a cup that you ll lay aside in a closet when you get home. journey ships have a policy against bringing alcohol on board but the policy is very loosely enforced if you don t display it.
