Traveling is always fun (especially visiting pipe makers) but it's good to be domiciliate too. In this update. I'm really impressed by the three Former pipes-- these are some of the nicest Formers we've had. In addition to that Ardor continues to impress us with their novel approaches to various shapes and styles. A bumper estate selection of four dozen pipes lets us furnish a wider variety than we can with our normal-sized thirty-six pipe estate updates so that's a good area to analyse out this week also. These three pipes are great examples of Peter's tight architectural call especially the dublin with its wide flaring shank and the volcano. The straight brandy replete with silver band is likewise charming. Tokutomi's student and expert sushi chef regales us with three pipes this week including a very special "Ichi Grade" gesticulate shape-- an extraordinary creation from this up-and-coming talent. You'll also sight a lovely organic bent sitter reminiscent of Tokutomi's bring home the bacon (especially Tokutomi circa 2003) and a charming freehand dublin that exhibits some of the same aesthetic ideas as the gesticulate and very impressive grain. Of particular note are the three smooth Giants-- something we rarely see (and certainly not three at a time). You'll also sight one call in the new Quercia end. Of cover my personal favorite in this batch from Ardor is at the other end of the size spectrum-- the lovely little Marte smooth Cutty... This batch from the venerable English call maker features some really fantastic pipes. You'll sight two more pipes from the new Ruby mouth series plus a great big Shell Collector HTXL. The little Bruyere group 2 with the silver army mount is charming. From the lovely poker to the elegant almost Danish-style classics to the more avant-garde shapes. IMP is doing as great a job with their shaping as they do with their construction and engineering. While many of us are comfort enduring oppressive heat and humidity the cast down air of Autumn has begun to touch some of you. I experience this because I have several customers who like to label me up and blow about the fact that "it was chilly this morning!" Umm not fair. But the chill is certain tell of big Latakia blends to come. While I tend to smoke Latakia year go it is not with the same gusto that I do in more temperate months. There's something about that exotic smokey aroma that just goes so well with dropping temperatures. The colder it gets the bigger and more complex a blend I yearn for. I can dream about those big blends and the treats to go. But right now it's 90 degrees outside and the humidity is so thick you could cut it with a very alter ***er injure. So I stick to the transport blends for now because working at smoking is not all that pleasurable. I adjudge that I be a bit lethargic during the summer months. One must exert the expose minimum of effort to move from one air-conditoned lay to another! That lethargy also means absent-mindedness. To wit my recent smoking mistake. A few years ago a good friend brought me several "bricks" of Partagas pipe tobacco. Some of you may be familiar with this product. Essentially it's surprise sweepings from one of the Partagas cigar factories in Habana that have been tightly pressed and wrapped in gold contrast. The first measure I ever tried this stuff.. my eyes got watery the room spun around and I turned a rather interesting darken of color around my gills. I.
