11/15/07 - After losing to Xavier University (3-0) Friday and the University of Dayton (3-0) Saturday the University of Rhode Island volleyball team lost the three-way tiebreaker for the final two spots in the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament ending its season. URI was tied with Fordham University. George Washington University and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte all with records 5-8. "We lost because of our head-to-head loss to George Washington," head coach Bob Schneck said about an earlier match. "We have three more losses and are still tied with Fordham. It doesn't sit real well. We needed to be better and not count on other teams' losses."Dayton ranked No. 16 is the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament after defeating URI. The Rams lost 30-12. 30-18 and 30-16. Schneck said that Dayton had a taller and more physical team and it capitalized on the unforced errors his team made. "They [Dayton] were too hard to handle for us right now," he said. Sophomore Caitlyn Welsh had six kills while freshman Lindsay Lytle had five with four digs. Junior Peggy Doino had 12 digs and senior Kaira Kachadurian had 17 assists in her final game for URI."I thought that Peggy probably fought as hard as any liberos with digging balls," Schneck said. Doino also had 12 digs against Xavier. The Musketeers defeated the Rams 30-10. 30-20 and 30-22."It was very difficult for a young team to meet that much adversity," Schneck said. He also said that was some very unsportsmanlike behavior from the crowd in Xavier against the URI players. Junior Chinny Okpara. Welsh and freshman Lauren McIntosh all had six kills while Kachadurian had 18 assists. Xavier is the No. 2 seed in the A-10 Tournament now followed by St. Louis University. Temple University. Fordham and George Washington."Our young kids were very close to ascertaining our goal," Schneck said. At the beginning of the season their goals were to bat.500 and make it to the A-10 Championships. They finished with a record of 13-15 (5-8 A-10).

"Motion City Soundtrack draws fans to the Palladium" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:27:07

11/15/07 - On Sunday. MTVU sponsored a tour featuring Motion City Soundtrack with special guests Mae. Anberlin and Metro Station made their way to The Palladium in Worcester. Mass. Despite the cold temperatures the lines formed early with kids hoping to get that coveted front-row spot. Overall the show was more than worth the hour or so drive to Worcester. Los Angeles-based electro-pop rock band Metro Station opened the show. I really can't get over the fact that its lyrics are just terrible but I will say the group does put on a decent live show. The crowd wasn't overly receptive object for this one awkward kid dancing like his life depended on it but I say good for him that's what concerts are for. Eventually the danceable beats of songs. "Disco" and "Seventeen Forever" took over and kids started having a good time. Metro Station also had the 14-year-old girls swooning with its love ballad. "Kelsey." The band was decent not my cup of tea so to speak but it wasn't painful to have to listen to either. Second openers. Anberlin came out rocking and didn't stop until the last song. Lead singer. Stephen Christian knows how to get a show going. I never really had a chance to see the band live before this show and I must say the band left an impression. I was slightly disappointed that its set consisted mostly of songs off of its newest album. Cities. Absolutely nothing against any of the songs from that preserve but it would've been nice to hear a few older songs as well. I look forward to seeing this band again. The Virginia-based rock band. Mae which is serving as main support for this journey followed Anberlin. A tough act to follow but Mae more than held its own. With the recent departure of its bass player and keyboardist many people were skeptical as to whether Mae could pull off a good show with two replacements that had only a couple months to rehearse. I am not going to lie. Mae is my favorite band and I was a little anxious to see what this show would bring. However. Mae was on top of its game; dare I say it sounded even better than its last show in August and that's saying a lot.
