"Common searches for immortality on Finding Forever" posted by ~Ray

09/26/07 - People have searched for immortality for hundreds of years since the days of Ponce De Leon and the Fountain of Youth; but that all too elusive goal always seems to be just out of reach. Now Chicago MC Common is making his own bid for immortality (albeit of a more musical sort) with his seventh studio album. Finding Forever. Common whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. spoke on his sonic quest and was quoted as saying. "Finding Forever really means to find a place in music where you can exist forever. Music can be forever if you make it from the heart if you make it from the soul and it's good … that's forever music." Common waits to get things started as the intro to the album is just a simple instrumentation that bears no resemblance to what the ensuing album has in store for the unexpecting listeners. The intro then gives way to the ominous-sounding "Start The Show." Common takes advantage of the thumping kicks producer Kanye West provides spewing barb-filled lines like. "With 12 monkeys on stage it's hard to see who's a gorilla / You was better as a drug dealer." The Grammy-nominated artist then ushers in some soulfulness with "The People." The track which features Detroit crooner Dwele displays the socially aware style of rhyming fans have come to appreciate from Common. The consciousness continues with the Lily Allen assisted "Drivin' Me Wild" in which the rhymer formally known as Common Sense elaborates on people who chase all the wrong things in this world of ours. The G. O. O. D Music artist and his Black Eye Peas cohort. Will i am proceed to switch up the mood with the finger-snapping "I Want You." The love-note-styled selection features a remorseful Common pleading with a lost lover to come back home. Kanye West works his way back into the mix as he and Common deliver an ode to their side of Chicago aptly titled "Southside." The track which was meant for the Super Bowl XLI-bound Chicago Bears and originally titled "Southside Super Bowl," makes use of a mean-sounding guitar sample that paints a musical picture of Common's gritty home and allows him to state his lyrical dominance with lines like. "Back in '94 they called me Chi-town's Nas / Now them n****s know I'm one of Chi-town's gods."

09/26/07 - During the Quinnipiac Invitational held in Hamden. Conn last weekend the URI women's tennis team looked to leave its mark and did just that. "The goal was to play lots of tennis and get all eight players into multiple singles and doubles matches," said coach Sandy Wood. "With three days of sunshine the result was just what we were looking for. All the teams were very strong which meant there were no easy matches." Army. University of Connecticut. Binghamton University. Seton Hall University. University of Maryland-Baltimore and Quinnipiac University competed. Every member of the team came out victorious in at least one match as the women finished with an overall record of 20-26. The biggest highlight was produced by freshman Christen Cadigan who reached the finals of the B draw which is composed of the number three and four singles players from each educate. Cadigan defeated players from Seton Hall. Quinnipiac and UConn and came up just short in the finals against Binghamton. Sophomore Amanda Barletta also turned in a solid effort by winning her final three matches against Maryland. Seton Hall and Army in the B consolation after losing her first match. The team's toughest games last weekend came in the doubles matches setting an 8-12 record. The No. 1 team of sophomore Nyssa Peele and junior Grace Hedstrom played well with solid victories against the No. 1 and No. 2 teams from UConn while dropping a match against Quinnipiac's top duo. Wood said that the other pairs had flashes of solid play but they are not where they need to be as of yet."We will work on improving our doubles compete over the next few weeks," Wood said. "The key is to be more aggressive with our returns and our volleys."The combined singles and doubles records of the three-day event were: Nyssa Peele: 3-3; Grace Hedstrom: 2-4; Amanda Barletta: 3-3; Christen Cadigan: 4-2; Kristen Liu: 2-2; Brooke clean: 2-4; Stef Catanzano: 1-3; Kianya Tipirneni: 1-5. Wood said she was very pleased with the effort given by his team and its ability to hold its own against talented opponents. "Over all we played and competed very well against some fine competition. It shows we've had a very productive fall toughen and that the girls are improving and playing well," Wood said. "The girls also had a lot of fun and are ready to enter the dual match portion of the fall season."The URI women's team will be back in action on Saturday at noon on the URI courts against conference rival St. Joseph's University.

"I Hate Sally's Don't Worry Lady will shatter your eardrums" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:19:11

09/26/07 - Don't mind Lady by I Hate Sally makes me want to cover my ears. The whole album is just one incomprehensible scream. I experience that there are actual words to the songs because they're printed in the booklet that came with the CD but when I listened to the songs all I heard was screaming. There was not one word that could be disguised from another. The lead vocals did however remind me of the Tasmanian Devil. You know when he spins into that darken of dust and makes all those incomprehensible sounds. The actual music is pretty good. It almost sounds normal. Listening to the music itself you have no idea that screaming is on its way. The instrumentals were the only way I could express the difference between the songs because all the words sounded alike. I dislike Sally is a metal/affix hardcore band that is originally from Ontario. Canada. The band formed in 2000. They undergo gone through several band members- a fact that makes me query why they can't keep their band together. I also query how desire it will be until they have yet another member change. They now have a four-member bind that they tour with. Former bassist. Dee Prescott has come approve to be the bring about vocalist. I dislike Sally recorded Don't Worry Lady in 2006. Ever since guitarist Ben Thomas left the bind they have decided not to play songs from their past two albums at be shows. Their album ordain be released in the UK on Oct. 1. I Hate Sally is not a band I would be to comprehend to again. Nor would I actually buy their CD. Maybe if they took out the horrible screaming and put in actual words the album might actually be worth listening too. Until that day however. I think I'll stay away from I Hate Sally.
